Etihad Stadium
While it is the official home of Manchester City Football Club, the venue also acts as a host to other events such as concerts among others. Etihad Stadium was previously known as Eastlands when it was initially built as a host for the 2002 Commonwealth Games. After the completion of the games, the stadium was converted to a football stadium which would act as the home of Manchester City. It would be a replacement of their previous home ground, Maine Road.
The club started playing at the Etihad Stadium during the 2003-04 season. When Manchester City moved to the stadium, it was initially known as the City of Manchester Stadium. However, a 10-year sponsorship deal in 2011 with Etihad Airways saw the stadium renamed to Etihad Stadium. One of the major events the stadium has hosted was the EUFA Cup final in 2008 between Zenit St Petersburg and Rangers.
The stadium is located at the east side of Manchester and it is about 1.5 miles away from the city centre. Some of the ways to reach the stadium include walking, which usually takes approximately 25 minutes when accessing the stadium from the city centre. There are also bike racks built around the stadium.
You may also access the stadium through buses or the Metrolink. There is a dedicated tram stop at the stadium to ensure easy access especially during event days.
Visitors of the stadium can book guided tours around the Etihad Stadium. The tours include visits to the players dressing rooms, dug outs, director's box, press conference rooms and the players' tunnels. Most of the tours usually last approximately 70 minutes. The tours are available every day of the week usually between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm. However, the scheduling may be affected during match days.
